Maria stands in the hallway by the lockers. This hallway connects the tech class section to the cafeteria. So, on one side of her, Maria can hear the noise of the students who are settling for lunch. It`s her lunch period, too, but she`s waiting for Shadow to come out of class. He`s currently in his mechanic class but he should be out real soon. Maria is holding onto her art class materials, hugging them into herself. She hums a little tune to herself to keep occupied while she`s waiting.

As for the rest of the Sonic Gang, they have gathered together in the hallway at the lockers and are on their way to the cafeteria. Sonic is air guitaring "It Doesn`t Matter" while everyone else are engaged in discussing the fund raiser that`s coming up just before Halloween. They usually participate in it every year and plan on doing it again this year. The fund raiser isn`t being held by the school though, it`s a community fund raiser, so anyone can join.

The mechanic class finally releases it`s students. Shadow walks down the hallway heading towards the cafeteria. He knows Maria will be there and most likely everyone else, too. As he walks, his eyes aren`t focused on anything in particular. He`s busy thinking about some things. All of them about Maria.

It`s official. He wants Maria for more than just a friend. But how would he communicate that to her? Shadow has never been an expert on human interaction, but he knows something like this is delicate. If it`s handled wrong, the attempt will fail. Like everything else Shadow gets involved in, failure is not an option. So just how is human courtship carried out? What would she want out of the courtship? What is expected of him to do? Surely there is a way to find out.

Shadow closes his eyes for a moment, wanting to get his fast-pace beating heart to slow down. He won`t admit his nervousness nor will he admit to his lack of knowledge on this matter. All he knows is that she is of great desire to him. He opens his eyes and then stops dead in his tracks.

At the end of the hall, just at the entrance to the cafeteria, Shadow finds Maria. But there is some boy talking to her. Shadow doesn`t know who the boy is, and doesn`t really care to find out who it is. But the boy`s gesture and body language is a dead give away that he is moving in on Maria. The boy has one hand on the wall beside Maria, leaning over her with her "trapped" against the wall. Shadow can hear the boy asking Maria to go out with him.

The anger and fury in Shadow instantly rises up to an astronomical level. Both of his hands clench in tight fists and his red eyes fixate themselves on the boy as if he were setting a missile lock-on on the boy. How dare he! The idiot is making moves on his Maria, [b]HIS[/b] Maria! And the fool thinks he is worthy of her...Ha! This boy could never measure up to the minimum standards that it would take to be good enough for her. He has made a grave mistake and it will cost him dearly.

The messenger bag slips off of Shadow and slumps on the floor. Shadow immediately breaks into a run towards the boy, charging straight for him.

The Sonic Gang begin entering the cafeteria with Sonic`s air guitar performance still going on. Currently Amy is speaking as they enter the cafeteria,"Maybe we could do stage performances for the fund raiser talent show?"

As this would be a first time for Blaze, being one of the newer members of the team, she comments,"Hm, that could be fun."

Knuckles changes the subject,"Whoa, what`s going on over there?"

Pointing through his mitt, Knuckles draws everyone`s attention to a crowd of students at the opposite end of the cafeteria entrance. Several people over there seem to be cheering on, and encouraging, a fight. Sonic looks over along with everyone else,"Dunno. Let`s go find out."

Being known as the fastest thing alive for a good reason, Sonic quickly zips over to the crowd, leaving his friends to do their best to keep up behind him. Sonic stops just behind the crowd of people and gets on his tiptoes to see over top of everyone. Luckily, his height is already helping him with this task. He whispers "uh oh" as he sees who`s fighting.

The poor guy didn`t see it coming.

Shadow has the boy held against the wall and is repeatedly punching the boy in the face. He must have his busted nose by now easily. Blood is all over his face and has made it`s way down to his shirt. Shadow isn`t using any of his chaos powers, he doesn`t need to. For him, the very fact he can beat this boy the old-fashioned, primitive way would further show that he is stronger than his opponent. Maria is still against the wall where she was earlier when the boy approached her. She looks a little scared of what is happening, she must have been caught off guard by Shadow`s attack as well. Only unlike the boy, Maria isn`t harmed. The encouraging cheering from the crowd is getting a little deafening as their volume increases.

A final blow to the boy`s face is made with Shadow putting more strength into the punch than what he had been doing the past bit. With the added strength to the punch, and Shadow letting go of the boy, he gets knocked over to the side a little ways off. He lands on his side on the floor nearest the wall. Because he gets sent towards the crowd, everyone backs up to avoid being hit by a flying body. But Shadow isn`t done yet. With determination and purpose in each step, Shadow strides towards the quivering boy on the floor.

Throughout this fight, the same things have been running over and over in Shadow`s head. Those feelings only intensify as this goes on. Now Shadow will once again use the wall as an aide to his nonverbal message to his opponent. Having the boy trapped between the wall and himself, Shadow will finish this.

He stands just in front of the boy, looking down at him haughtily. For Shadow, he is the superior one, he is the strong one. Only the ultimate lifeform is worthy of Maria. He will make this message clear. Suddenly Shadow begins to stomp the boy with his hover shoe. Seeing the stomping, this gets the cheering to slow down, even coming to a stop. A few of the female students cover their mouths with their hands while most others just have their mouths hanging open in shock. The boy doesn`t stand a chance, he is completely overpowered by Shadow. The stomping doesn`t let up either. Shadow doesn`t care of what everyone else thinks of his methods. This fool invaded his coup and he is going to make sure it doesn`t happen again. In fact, this may even serve as a message to all others in the school to not make the same mistake. Creepily, a smirk begins to form on Shadow`s face as he sees what pain he is putting this student through and seeing just how much more on top he is over this kid, despite taking it so easy on him. He`s just a wimp now to Shadow.

It doesn`t look like Shadow will be stopping any time soon. Sonic knows full well that murder does not bother Shadow in the least. Someone has to stop him. Sonic makes his way through the crowd and dashes for Shadow. Doing the best he can without causing the fight to turn on him but yet wanting to save the boy`s life, Sonic grabs Shadow`s arm and tries to pull him away from the boy. He does manage to pull Shadow back but Shadow`s adrenaline is out of control at this point. Driven by seeing blood on his opponent, Shadow yanks his arm from Sonic and gives him a shove then immediately goes back to his prey, proceeding with the continuation of beating the boy.

Sonic won`t give up that easily. He comes back after Shadow. Standing behind Shadow, Sonic reaches his arm forward and wraps it around Shadow`s front and tries to pull Shadow back from behind,"You`ve got to stop, Shadow!"

Like a mountain lion that has caught it`s first meal in days, Shadow doesn`t want to give up his attack on the boy. He continues to ignore Sonic`s plea.

Then out of nowhere, Maria appears in front of Shadow and quickly wraps her arms around his waist. She pleads with him,"Stop! You`re going to kill him! Please, Shadow!"

Almost like a switch has been flipped, Shadow ceases his attack on the boy and finally complies to backing off. Sonic walks Shadow and Maria away from the scene. As he does so, he calls out to the crowd,"Someone get the school nurse!"
