Metropolis is most famous for being Eggman`s city and it still is. It has several tall buildings of unconventional shapes. The city is still crawling with robots and many mechanical parts are strewn about. Eggman has not made any moves to clean this city up, though probably because he usually travels by flight so the mess doesn`t get in his way or inhibit him. There are robotic guards patrolling the place to deal with any intruders that enter here (not only Sonic and his friends but any invading GUN attack as well). Since the continual problems with Sonic, Eggman has been upgrading his robots to hopefully be more efficient and more successful of at least slowing Sonic down. Many of the robots have much greater speed though still sort of bulky. There are all still dangerous.

Dashing around the city at a high speed, a black streak bulldozes through robots and seems to be raising havoc in the streets. Shadow runs this way and that, having one goal on his mind - find Eggman. He is pretty determined to do so since he heard the new report in the mall when he was with Sonic and the rest of the group. Sure he just left them without a word but this is an emergency case.

Right after blasting one robot to the side via Chaos Spear, a much more large robot suddenly jumps into the scene from the side, almost stomping on Shadow. Shadow darts to the side though in just the nick of time. But instead of wasting time to take revenge on the robot for almost stepping on him, Shadow decides to keep running forward. Time is crucial.

Shadow veers off to the side and runs up a ramp which takes him to an upper level, resembling a highway. This has less robots but it does not mean it is any less dangerous. The robots here are even faster as Eggman had predicted that Sonic would prefer these roads to unleash his high speed on. So, in turn, the robots on this highway are required to be fast in order to stand any chance against Sonic`s speed, though the only robot Eggman had ever created that had good enough speed to keep up with Sonic was Metal Sonic. Running along this highway-like strip, Shadow occasionally shifts his eyes to the side to take a look at the city below. He wants to make sure that he is going the right way; this is Shadow`s first time taking this highway route.

Shadow doesn`t have a lot of time..Although he doesn`t know all too much about this place, he knew based on everything occurring around him that security is starting to empty out into the streets. He suddenly sprints through the highway strip and right after reaching the other side, he ducks into a secluded alley, getting his bearings. Lifting up the aged tire iron in his right hand, he looks up, suddenly covering his ears as sirens blared off. He manages to stumble into a small, empty service-station.

With his destructive entrance into Metropolis, Shadow has caught the attention of several robots, even the ones that were not patrolling the city for security purposes. They all have been programmed to go after anyone who isn`t part of the Eggman army. They swarm to Shadow`s direction from different directions. Some of the robots are runners, some are flyers, but they all have the same goal in mind: find the intruder and destroy it.

Locking the door, Shadow feels confident that would buy him a little time. Turning around, he begins to look through an array of security camera feeds. Trailing his finger along one particular screen, he saw a particular feed that is close by.

"..Storage." he whispers, reading the label. Lifting up the rudimentary, crudely drawn map, it was in the area, but that would mean going back out there.

He turns his head to look at a vent, mentally estimating its size in relation to his own. Seems a fair guess he might be able to fit in through the vents. Shadow crawls his way to a particular spot. Slipping the tire-iron in a loop on his belt, Shadow raises his hands and grasps the sides, pulling the edges away. Tossing the metal grate, he hops into the enclosed space, crawling around in the dusty, dark vents. As the security terminal is small, he shortly after emerges in a small garage that houses a flier-vehicle, specifically for the robotic guards that needed to go on patrol through the skies. Hefting his only effective hand weapon, the tire iron, he sets a hand on the door-handle that would let him out into the city, "EXIT" glowing in green text right above.

As soon as he steps outside, one of the Egg-Robos is out there to greet him by firing a bullet at him. With Shadow`s quick reflexes though, he is able to avoid the bullet and thus it hits the ground between his feet. The Egg-Robo, and many other robots, begin to charge at Shadow from their waiting spots. Egg-Robo fire more bullets at Shadow as it uses it`s rocket to sail through the air. Not the quickest of the robots but still annoying enough!

Shadow isn`t about to just stand around and dodge bullets. He reels back and harshly begins to swing his weapon. His attacks consist mainly of kicks, followed by swinging the heavy, sturdy tire-iron. The tire iron is actually comprised of high carbon steel, and while Eggman`s robots are comprised of metal, they have numerous vulnerabilities when striking the right areas. However, one of the rockets explodes right behind Shadow, propelling him forwards and knocking him off his feet,"..Grah!"

His vision is slightly blurry, as he is on the ground. He hears a lengthy, loud "Beeeeeepp" noise. He can`t hear anything as he struggles to get up to his feet, wobbling this way and that. Shadow is experiencing shell-shock. Most of the robots that were in the area with Shadow during the explosion have been blown to bits. Their parts have been scattered around on the ground in many places, adding to the growing mess of the city. The robots that aren`t blown to bits, are set on self-repair, mostly from their software being jolted from the shock wave of the explosion.

Shadow makes his way towards the nearest building.

The building Shadow is nearing is not the tallest building in Metropolis but would still impress any normal human being. It`s very wide, though, so it contains more rooms on each floor than the other buildings of the city. After entering this building, it`s purpose isn`t really clear. There are a lot of computers along the walls of the wide, open rooms, but nothing to indicate what they are doing. It doesn`t matter to Shadow anyway, so he couldn`t care less.

Shadow is still experiencing shell-shock. Explosions never jolted Shadow in the past, he had grown tough and used to them. But this one had exploded very near him. For an extended period of time, his body is lurched forwards, his left hand gripping the edge of the doorway while he recovers. Soon after, he lifts his chin and straightens himself, slowly walking through the building.

Finding that he had lost the tire iron during the explosion, he is reduced to using his abilities until he could find a substitute. He begins to briefly glance at the computer screens on the wall, but doesn`t see any security camera feeds. And so, he turns away. He had to find Maria...Where is the Storage? That looked like Maria on the video-log.

CLAK CLAK CLAK

A few worker robots run down the hall towards Shadow to make an attack on him. They`re not meant for battling but rather for running machinery and operating computers. But they can sometimes come up with a surprise or two, so they should never been taken too lightly.

One of the worker robots has brought with it a laser gun, being that worker robots don`t come with built-in weaponry. It does it`s best to hit Shadow with it but any that hit the computers or lights, it short circuits the object; the lights that are hit go out, making the room darker.

Shadow leaps up and performs a signature jump-kick. Focusing much of his body-weight on his right foot, he lunges for where the latter of the two would have been had it continued to advance. He doesn`t expect the armed one to come any closer than it had to, which would reduce its companion to up close and personal combat.

The robot that is kick goes sailing into one of the larger computer systems on the side in the wall. It bursts through the wall casing of the computer and the electricity is surging through it`s new opening. The worker robot is instantly electrocuted into submission. The armed worker robot tries once more to try and make contact on Shadow with the laser gun but has failed again. The laser hits another one of the computers. This time, the whole room of equipment goes dead with this computer now out. The computer must have been what was powering the room.

Shadow decids that it is probably best to keep running and find the exit. Running along, his adrenaline kicks back in. At this point, he just wants to rescue Maria and get out. If only he could find his way through the dark halls. His eyes begin to adjust to the darkness, he could determine where he was going. Dodging crates and trolleys, he looks around. Notably, he is searching for any door or opening to another area.

Surprisingly, the worker robots Shadow faced in the first room seem to be all that`s for security in this building. This must be the right place. But why so few security inside the place? Is this whole thing a trap? Well, it wouldn`t matter. If Maria really is here, Shadow has to get her out.

Each door on the left and right only seem to lead to more computer rooms. At the end of the hall, though, is an elevator to the upper floors. It should still be functioning. If Shadow takes the elevator, there will be one more robot but it`s primary function is to operate the elevator, so it poses no threat to Shadow nor would it try to.

Shadow starts to slow down as he nears the elevator, eying the robot cautiously. Determining that it isn`t much of a threat, he just looks up towards the ceiling. His head slowly turns to see a pipe-end on the wall nearby. Gripping it, he roughly pulls it away from the wall, steam and water-vapors spraying here and there for a short while. Shadow just steps away and looks over his new found weapon. Then Shadow boards the elevator with the robot.
